The boys had a water polo clinic in Boca Raton and rather than just waiting around for them we decided to make a day of it and explore a few places in the area. The beach at Boca Raton had been our first thought but the morning was breezy and little overcast so we switched to another idea. Morikami Japanese Gardens, beautiful to stroll around. Their leaflet gave information on a few stops as we walked and there is also an audio tour option to use with your phone. We bought fish food and enjoyed watching the splashes of huge koi carp and turtles as we fed them from the bridge. On our visit the museum was closed for restorations and with less than two hours available to us before we needed to take the boys to lunch we missed eating at the cafe, but it smelled good.
After carb loading, necessary for some of the family more than others, we travelled 15 minutes north to downtown Boynton Beach. Plenty of parking was available across from the very smart City Hall and Library building. We picked up the walking map for the Kinetic sculpture exhibit – 19 pieces of outdoor artwork along East Ocean Avenue and strolled some more. Some fun and unusual sculptures to look and photograph. We also spotted a playground for up to 12 year olds. With lockdown it’s been a while since playgrounds have been accessible so our daughter enjoyed some climbing on the new looking equipment.
One final stop on our way back to the pool – 5150 Chocolate. A bean to bar chocolate factory and shop with a cool story and tasty chocolate to buy, plus a coffee bar. We picked up some chocolate ready for Easter the next day – bags of S’mores and Cookies ‘n’ Cream bark, huge chocolate covered marshmallows and pretzels – and beautiful flavoured chocolate bonbons to try right away.
What a fun day—I love the kinetic art and crazy chocolates!
