From our time in Zurich, we became good friends with a family from Atlanta, who then transferred back to the US, but this time to Houston. So, of course, we needed a weekend visit. We stayed with them in Spring, a modern suburb, but visited Old Town Spring to get the feel of old Texas. Cute wooden buildings housing shops, bars and restaurants that made us feel like we were walking down the street in a Western.
We couldn’t go to Houston without experiencing NASA at the Johnson Space Center. After a full day exploring, including spotting Texas Longhorns in the grounds we were ready to fill up on Texan food at Killen’s Barbecue. That evening, full of brisket we all sat down to watch Apollo 13, keeping with our tradition of linking sightseeing with films
To complete our stay we headed Downtown to stay in the Marriott Marquis which has a great rooftop lazy river…in the shape of the state of Texas! Our time was mostly spent floating in the tubes but we had a good view of Minute Maid Park, home to the Houston Astros, and a short stroll took us to Discovery Green then to Pappasito’s Cantina for Mexican food.
